Case 80 Diagnosis

Macular choroidal neovascularization secondary to pathologic myopia

Differential Diagnosis

  • Age-related macular degeneration: more likely in an older patient with associated ocular findings consistent with the disease
  • Presumed ocular histoplasmosis syndrome: would expect to see lesions in other areas of the eye
  • Traumatic choroidal rupture: no history of trauma
  • Post retinal laser photocoagulation: no such history in this patient
  • Angioid streaks: no angioid streaks in this patient
