Case 7 Teaching Points
- Most common ocular opportunistic infection in AIDS patients
- Typically seen in patients with CD4 count < 50
- Lesions typically found along major vascular arcades
- Serial fundus photos useful in documenting progression
- Can be asymptomatic, so dilated fundus exam is indicated every 3 months while
- CD4 < 50
- Treat with ganciclovir, cidofovir and foscarnet
- Rhegmatogenous retinal detachment occurs in one-third of patients with CMV retinitis
