Case 118 Diagnosis

Relentless placoid chorioretinitis

Differential Diagnosis

  • Acute posterior multifocal placoid pigment epitheliopathy: white placoid lesions that resolve spontaneously, no atrophy or scarring, vision rarely affected
  • Serpiginous choroiditis: progressive, recurrent lesions usually located in peripapillary area and occasionally in macula
  • Persistent placoid maculopathy: white, creamy placoid lesions located in macula similar to macular serpiginous choroiditis.  Persistent placoid maculopathy, however, resolves in months to years with no atrophy or scarring.
