Case 11 Teaching Points
- Caused by progressive contraction of fibrovascular membranes over area of vitreoretinal attachment
- Treatment is with vitrectomy and removal of the fibrovascular tissue and repair of any retinal breaks or detachments
- Favorable prognostic factors include:
- Good preoperative visual function
- Age less than 40
- Absence of rubeosis iridis or glaucoma preoperatively
- Prior panretinal photocoagulation
