Sarcoidosis

Differential Diagnosis

  • Viral chorioretinitis: retinitis is more extensive
  • Tuberculosis: positive "PPD test", abnormal chest X-ray, acid-fast bacilli on sputum sample or bronchial washing
  • Syphilis: positive fluorescent treponemal antibody absorption test or rapid plasma reagin test
  • Toxoplasmosis: single or multiple patches of necrotizing retinitis, often adjacent to preexisting chorioretinal scar
  • Pars planitis: characterized by exudate over the pars plana as an inferior snowbank
