Interim President White
Comes to Kellogg

Dr. Lichter, Helmut Stern and President WhitePaul R. Lichter, M.D., with Helmut Stern and President White.

B. Joseph White, U-M Interim President, addressed the faculty and staff of the Kellogg Eye Center on January 15. He lauded the care we provide to our patients as well as the leadership of Dr. Paul Lichter noting that “Kellogg is a crucial element in our Medical Center’s breadth and excellence in research and patient care.” President White said that he was well aware of our “growth pains” and that he was certain to learn more about Kellogg’s needs during the tour following his remarks. While acknowledging that it is “important to support new initiatives like Life Sciences,” President White is also intensely focused on “maintaining our current spires of excellence, like the Kellogg Eye Center.” He went on to emphasize that “the issue should not be growth, but excellence.”

After his remarks, President White was taken on a tour of the Eye Center research laboratories and clinics by Dr. Lichter. They were accompanied by Mr. Helmut Stern, a long-time supporter of the University and Chair of the Eye Center’s Community Advisory Board.
