Two events to focus on children’s vision
Two related events this week will help parents learn more about their children’s eye health. "Your Child’s Eyes" is the topic of a talk on Thursday, September 12, 7:00-8:30 p.m., at the Ann Arbor District Library (AADL). On the following Saturday, September 14, 10:00 a.m.12:00 noon, Dr. Erika Levin, a pediatric ophthalmologist from the UM Kellogg Eye Center, will offer a vision screening for children ages 3 and older in the Children’s Story Room, also at the Library.
On Thursday evening, Dr. Levin will talk to parents about the importance of early vision screening, and will note the critical ages for testing a child’s vision. She will describe how to treat common vision disorders, including strabismus, in which the eyes are misaligned, resulting in crossed-eyes or wall-eyes. She will also talk about amblyopia, which occurs when one eye does not develop properly.
These events are free and open to the public and are co-sponsored by the Ann Arbor District Library and the UM Kellogg Eye Center. The Library is located at 343 S. Fifth Avenue. For more information, call 734-763-1415.
