The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Michigan invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position. We are seeking an outstanding candidate who studies fundamental mechanisms of retinal development or aging. Highest priority will be given to scientists whose work interfaces well with existing programs and includes translational efforts contributing to the prevention or restoration of visual function in eyes with retinal diseases. Research strategies may include innovative uses of genetic manipulation, pharmacological alteration or transplantation of retinal cells and precursors in vertebrate models.
The applicant must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D., with a strong record of accomplishments. The Department anticipates making an appointment at the level of Assistant Professor, although applications from senior scientists with productive and well-funded research programs will also be considered.
The Department provides a world-class research environment including a Vision Research Training Program and various core facilities supported by the NIH/NEI (see www.kellogg.umich.edu/research). Formal ties to basic science departments in the University are nurtured through joint appointments of its faculty. The Medical School offers a wide range of state-of-the-art research support including facilities utilizing transgenic and gene targeted mice, viral vector production, microarrays, DNA sequencing, proteomics, microscopic imaging and analysis, flow cytometry and bioinformatics. With the on-going construction of a 230,000 sq. ft. addition, the U-M Kellogg Eye Center is experiencing unprecedented growth that will increase its research space by 50%.
Applications received by will be assured consideration. The application should include a curriculum vitae, statement of research plans, and contact information for three references. The application should be sent to:
