About the Building Project
- The 230,000 (gross) square-foot building is adjacent to the Kellogg Eye Center research tower on Wall Street in Ann Arbor.
- Clinical space has increased from 50 examination rooms today to 73 rooms.
- Clinics are designed for efficiency and patient convenience: more exam rooms, larger waiting areas, and clinics designed to allow patients to move more easily through their appointments.
- Operating and procedure rooms have increased from 4 to 6.
- The operating suites, equipped with integrated communications technology, allow surgeries to be broadcast to the auditorium or the residents’ conference room.
- The 8-story facility houses all seven eye care clinics, with new suites for refractive surgery and cosmetic surgery. Supporting services include genetic counseling, ophthalmic photography, diagnostic electrophysiological testing, and ocular prosthetics.
- A large open laboratory for vision research occupies one floor in the new building; it is connected to the current Kellogg Research Tower, where research continues in laboratories located on four floors.
