A few facts you should know:

Kellogg Eye Center Expansion
  • The Eye Center expansion opened its doors to patients in March, 2010.
  • The building is grand in scale, with 230,000 square feet dedicated to patient care, research, and medical education.
  • The size of the center will allow for significant faculty recruitment, increasing the number of faculty in a Department known for its depth in the ophthalmic subspecialties.
  • The 8-story facility houses all seven eye care clinics, with new suites for refractive surgery and cosmetic surgery. Supporting services include genetic counseling, ophthalmic photography, diagnostic electrophysiological testing, and ocular prosthetics.
  • Six operating suites, equipped with integrated communications technology, will allow surgeries to be broadcast to the auditorium or the residents’ conference room.
  • The clinics have been designed for efficiency as well as comfort, allowing patients to move easily through their appointments.
  • The center is home of the Delores S. and William K. Brehm Center for Diabetes Research, providing opportunities for collaboration among ophthalmology and diabetes scientists.
  • A large open laboratory for vision research occupies one floor in the new building; it is connected to the current Kellogg Tower, where research continues in laboratories located on four floors.
