New Resident Education Center

Plans are underway for a new Resident Education Center to provide a technologically advanced setting for ophthalmologists in training. The 2,000-square-foot center, which will be housed on the sixth floor of the current Kellogg Eye Center tower, will feature state-of-the-art educational and communications technology as well as spaces for residents to learn and interact.

The center will include:

  • Resident conference roomA large conference room equipped with a variety of communication technologies and flexible furnishings that will accommodate conference table, classroom, or lecture-style seating
  • A residents lounge equipped with an integrated video and communications system linked to Kellogg’s operating suites
  • A surgical skills laboratory and surgery simulator
  • A pathology teaching laboratory
  • A comfortable space for independent study or small group meetings as well as space for rest during on-call duty

“This project will create a cohesive, comprehensive space for resident education,” says Residency Director Shahzad I. Mian, M.D. “We have one of the top residency programs in the country, in part because we continue to enhance our teaching environment. We are bringing together resources and technology that will enable residents to get the most out of their training here.”
